Trademark registration in Nigeria
Trademark registration in Nigeria protects your brand name or logo, and a lawyer picks the right class and follows the mark through to the certificate.
Protect your brand name or logo with a lawyer who picks the right class and follows the mark all the way to certificate.
A registered business name does not stop someone else using your brand. We search the register, advise whether your mark can be registered, file it in the right class at the Trademarks Registry and follow it through examination and publication to the certificate. You get a status update at every stage and a reminder before renewal.

Common questions
How do I register a trademark in Nigeria?
Trademarks are registered at the Trademarks, Patents and Designs Registry. The usual steps are an availability search, an application in the right class, examination and acceptance, publication in the Trade Marks Journal so others can object, and then the certificate.
Does registering a business name protect my brand?
Not as a trademark. A business name registration with CAC records the name you trade under, but it does not by itself stop someone else using a similar brand for their goods or services. Without a registered trade mark your only remedy is a passing off claim, which is harder to prove. Trademark registration gives you that protection for the classes you register in.
How long does a registered trademark last in Nigeria?
A registered trademark lasts seven years from the date of filing and can then be renewed for further periods of fourteen years, as long as the renewal fees are paid.
